Harley-Davidson got it’s lowly launch when William Harley and Arthur Davidson created the first production motorcycle in 1903. The motorbike that was made in a small shed wooden was a racing bike with Harley-Davidson Motor company written on the front door. In 1905 Harley-Davidson wins it’s first race and hires it’s first employee. Three years later, in 1908, Harley-Davidson sold the first motorcycle to be utilized in police service to the Detroit Police Department. A 6 story factory was built in 1912. H-D exported their first bikes to Japan.
1914 marks the year H-D formally enters itself into the national racing circuit, and is quickly known as “The Wrecking Crew” for it’s dominance in the racing industry. By 1917 one-third of all motorcycles produced would be sold to the military, and have also been the start of the Service School for Harley-Davidson Mechanics, for both military and civilian bikes.
Half of the bikes in 1918 were brought to Military service of World War 1 and it was Roy Holtz the first soldier have ridden the H-D Motorcycle in Germany. 1920 spots the year that the motorcycle company is the biggest in the world in the motorcycle industry, and has over 2,000 dealers in 67 countries worldwide.
THe competitors of Harley-Davidson disappeared in 1931 except for the Indian Motorcycle Company. These two companies were the only remaining motocrycle companies in United States until 1953.
As being the world enters into World War 2, so does Harley return into Military motorcycle development, and the service school is turned back to the military motorcycle service school, also referred to as the Quartermaster School for military mechanics. This was the time when the public had a problem to get hold of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
